Of course you say - "Moravian Cookies!"  You're on the right track but there's more.  Moravians trace their religious roots back to the Unity of Brethren, one of the earliest Protestant groups. The Unity was formed in Bohemia - now the Czech Republic - in 1457. They spread throughout Bohemia and neighboring Moravia until the counter-Reformation and the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) nearly destroyed the church. The members went into hiding or exile until the church was revived in Germany in the early 1700s. Moravians soon began forming congregations in other countries. Their first American congregation was in Savannah, Georgia, in 1734. The Savannah project failed but another group of Brethren founded a colony at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1740. That settlement flourished.  North Carolina
